The disc brake assembly comprises the friction pads, brake calipers, and of course, a brake rotor. The brake rotor supplies the friction surface of the brake pads. The rotor is installed on the axle or hub and rotates with the wheel, and the pads are placed on the caliper that sits the rotor. As the brakes are pressed, the hydraulic friction pushes the caliper piston outward, which clamps the brake pads on both sides of the rotor, slows down, and stops the engine.
Disc brake systems were initially designed for racing and started to feature on passenger cars soon after that. By the 1970s, both cars and commercial vehicles were fitted with brake discs on the front wheels, and nowadays, most of these vehicles are equipped with all four wheels. As opposed to drum brakes, disc brakes run smoother, making them more immune to fading, self-adjusting without extra function, and less vulnerable to pulling and picking.
C/SiC rotors are constructed from a mix of ceramic matrix composite material widely known as carbon-ceramic. C/SiC rotors give additional heat capacity and heat power despite traditional iron or titanium rotors of equivalent or even higher weight. Designed to survive extreme heat with the maximum possible hardness level to distort, fracture, and tear. This composite's composition is a subset of technologies and materials that have been important in producing the extreme-duty military-specific rotors produced by known manufacturers.
Take a glance at sportscars and hypercars, and you're more likely to crash into ceramic composite structures for their brake discs. They are selected because carbon-ceramic brakes can handle even more pressure than their cast iron and steel equivalents.
A large amount of heat would be produced during braking, as the friction material rubs against the rotors, decelerating the vehicle. If the heat is not drained away in the adequate time, a standard cast iron rotor will warp to give an inaccurate brake feel. Carbon-ceramic rotors can tolerate temperatures above 1830??F or almost 1000??C while still weighing much less on the other hand. These advantages allow them the favorite for track days and motorsports as they have a consistent lap after lap feel and reaction.
Outstanding Braking Performance
Carbon-ceramic discs have a more significant coefficient of friction, requiring less stopping time than cast-iron disks. The higher coefficient of friction produced by the carbon decreases the braking system's operation time, ensuring that the vehicle slows down before one with a conventional braking system. With our carbon-ceramic rotors, we can assure that your car can perform its true potential.
Improved Handling
The front carbon-ceramic disk weighs about 15-17 lbs, and the rear disc scales around 13 lbs. The traditional cast-iron disk and its hat weigh between 26-28 pounds. So, with carbon-ceramic, each wheel weighs 11-13 lbs less, which is a significant saving because we're speaking about mass.
Unique Style
Anyone staring at the car would notice the carbon-ceramic disks automatically because of their presence and shape. Especially in comparison to cast-iron disks, the carbon-ceramic disc is typically greater in diameter such that the wheel can be "packed" smoother, making it more spectacular. Carbon-ceramic also has a distinctive texture noticeable to the naked eye and leaves little question about its structure. We have the best carbon-ceramic rotors made only for your car, so if you want to get yourself unique and extraordinary carbon-ceramic rotors, Vivid Racing got you covered.
Lifetime Quality of the Rotor
Conventional cast-iron disks have a short life cycle of about 60,000 miles on record and need to be updated. Car owners with carbon-ceramic disks don't have to think about this because the structure and particularly the long life of these disks ensures that they last at least three, if not four, years bigger than the conventional disks. In other words, they run without any lack of output for the whole life of the vehicle on which they are mounted.
